Launched by Skype Technologies founders Niklas Wennström and Janus Friis, Rdio offered ad-supported free streaming and subscription streaming services in 85 countries before their acquisition by Pandora in 2015. Rdio’s interface prioritized clarity and style, leading Entertainment Weekly to call it “by far the best app and online interface, making database searching and playlist curation easy.”
In 2013 Rdio asked us to celebrate their product by creating the most beautiful campaign we could. We partnered with Jake Chessum to shoot portraits of dozens of artists including Cee Lo, Snoop Dogg, James Murphy, Lykke Li, and Quest Love. The campaign debuted with a takeover of Times Square and went on to occupy swaths of urban fabric in cities all over the world.
